More Than 500 Homologations For Pirelli Elect Tyres

Pirelli has obtained over 500 homologations for its Elect tyres since they first rolled out in 2019.

If you’re wondering why that matters, it’s because Pirelli has solidified itself as a leader in the EV tyre segment. Right now, seven out of 10 premium and prestige car manufacturers are fitting their BEVs and PHEVs with Pirelli Elect tyres. That’s no small feat.

“Electric cars operate on a completely different playing field compared to traditional combustion vehicles, which means they require bespoke tyres to perform optimally,” explains Piero Misani, Pirelli’s Chief Technical Officer. “The fact that we’ve secured so many homologations from the top manufacturers only affirms that we’re on the right track. We’re committed to using the latest tools (virtualisation and AI) to design products that meet the very specific demands of EVs.”

So, what does all this mean for drivers like you and me? Well, the Pirelli Elect tyres offer several perks.

For starters, they can extend your battery range by up to 50 kilometres, thanks to low rolling resistance. And while that might not sound like much, it can save you up to 150 euros a year in charging costs. Plus, these tyres offer better grip, essential for handling the high torque that electric motors generate.

They’re also built tougher to manage the extra weight of EVs, which not only enhances performance but reduces tyre wear by up to 20%. Finally, you’re looking at a 20% reduction in noise inside the cabin, which complements the serene drive you get from an EV’s silent motor.

The technology debuted with the first-generation P Zero tyres designed for the Porsche Taycan and has since expanded to Pirelli’s broader portfolio. The P Zero family is still the go-to for sportier models from premium brands, blending high performance with the quiet, efficient ride required for BEVs and PHEVs.

You’ll find that 30% of P Zero tyres now come with Elect technology. The Scorpion range, dedicated to SUVs, and the Cinturato line, for sedans and CUVs, also feature Elect tech.

Pirelli Elect technology is also making waves in winter and all-season tyres. In fact, 22% of their winter tyres and 17% of their all-season tyres now incorporate this innovation, bringing the benefits of reduced noise and rolling resistance even when you’re driving in colder, trickier conditions.
