One extreme adventure, one set of tyres. That was all that was needed when Pirelli and Porsche embarked on a cross-country desert expedition.
Imagine a journey stretching over 7,000 kilometres, traversing through the varying landscapes of asphalt, sand, dirt, and stones. This was the remarkable adventure of a Porsche 911 Dakar, shod with Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres, tested for their endurance and versatility.
The trek commenced from the Porsche Zentrum Inntal in Raubling, near Munich, and culminated in Dakar, Senegal. This route mirrored the challenging Africa Eco Race, a 12-stage rally linking Nador in Morocco to Dakar’s Pink Lake, traversing the rugged terrains of Mauritania and Senegal.
The 18-day expedition was a tapestry of diverse driving conditions, spanning approximately 1,000 kilometres of rocky desert dirt roads. The driver, an enthusiast and not a professional racer, navigated the European highways before delving into semi-paved roads, sandy stretches, and treacherous rocky bottoms.
The journey was a transition from the Alpine winter to the desert’s unpredictable climate swings, where temperatures could fluctuate up to 30 degrees Celsius within half a day. Regardless of the varied conditions, the tyres consistently delivered exceptional performance.
The resilience of the Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres is seriously impressive. Homologated for street use, these tyres stood their ground, ensuring a safe passage for the Porsche to the finish line. Not once did these tyres falter or require a change, a testament to their exceptional durability.
The Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus was specifically crafted as original equipment for the Porsche 911 Dakar. It’s a harmonious blend of a 911’s high performance and the capability to conquer demanding off-road conditions. This Porsche 911 Dakar is proof of that.
