Yokohama ADVAN Sport V107 Launched

Yokohama’s flagship sports tyre is out, and we’ve already had a chance to sample them.

Yokohama has unveiled to the world its latest flagship ADVAN Sport V107 premium sports tyre, thereby succeeding the ADVAN Sport V105, via a global livestream that introduced the tyre’s development story and testing at Yokohama Rubber’s Nürburgring Test Center in Germany.

The event video can be viewed here:

Yokohama has developed the ADVAN Sport V107 to be used on premium high-performance cars, high-performance sports utility vehicles (SUVs), and electric vehicles (EVs). Although global availability of the tyre will begin from March 2022 onwards, OE fitment commenced two years earlier in 2020, including tyres for Mercedes-AMG and BMW M.

Yokohama says that it will launch “30 replacement tire sizes, ranging from 225/40ZR18 92Y XL to 305/35R23 111Y XL, in Spring 2022, increasing the ADVAN Sport V107 size lineup, including original equipment (OE) sizes for new cars, to 43 sizes.”

Courtesy of new technologies incorporated into its rubber compound crafted and honed from its OE-fitment program, as well as an asymmetric tread pattern that helps drain water quicker and increase tread rigidity for better performance in the wet and dry respectively, Yokohama says that the ADVAN Sport V107’s “dry/wet performance and steering stability surpass the high levels achieved by its predecessor.”

Matrix body-ply structure technology was first seen on the ADVAN Sport V105, and it carries forth to the V107. With certain sizes, there’s even a new power crown belt cover structure that’s also used to increase the tyre’s grip. Owing to these technologies, the ADVAN Sport V107 is said to offer excellent steering stability and comfort at high speeds.

It’s no wonder, then, that the ADVAN Sport V107 has been OE-fitment approved for high-performance vehicles such as the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+, the Mercedes-AMG G 63-based Brabus 700/800/900 Off Roader, and BMW’s X5 M and X6 M.

Interestingly, the BMW iX3 M Sport Impressive we reviewed recently came standard-fitted with ADVAN Sport V107 tyres, and we were impressed at how they performed. During regular cruising, they were nice and quiet over normal roads, only becoming a bit louder over rougher tarmac. During a heavy downpour while driving on the highway, they felt planted and sure-footed, even over standing ponds of water. When pushed in corners, both in the dry and wet, they felt progressive and communicative and never left the driver guessing as to when they’d break traction. All of this while having to haul around nearly 2.3-tonnes of mass. Colour us impressed.

We need to remember that although Yokohama calls it an ultra-high performance tyre, the ADVAN Sport V107 is more of a premium sport tyre, and is not going to be the last word in grip and traction. It needs to be quiet, comfortable, offer good rolling-resistance numbers and yet allow the premium-performance vehicle owner to have a good amount of fun in the bends.

For hardcore enthusiast street drivers, though, don’t worry, as the also-recently-launched ADVAN Neova AD09 promises extreme performance on both road and track.
