BMW and Pirelli Develop New Winter Tyre

BMW and Pirelli have developed an eco-friendly and more efficient winter tyre.

This partnership has given birth to the 20-inch P Zero Winter 2 tyres, specifically designed for the BMW 7 Series.

The new tyres also enhance electric range. With an “A class” European label for rolling resistance, these tyres are crafted to minimise energy loss as they roll, thereby extending the vehicle’s range by up to 50km compared to standard winter tyres. These tyres come with the BMW-specific Star-Mark, a badge of honour that guarantees they meet BMW’s rigorous standards for quality and performance.

Beyond the grip and durability in snowy conditions, what stands out is the tread pattern and compound; they have been refined for optimal performance on cold, wet, and slippery surfaces.

Dr Mihiar Ayoubi, Senior Vice President, Development Driving Pleasure at the BMW Group, lauds this achievement, highlighting it as a milestone in tyre technology that enhances the winter driving experience without compromising the electric range. This, he notes, is part of a broader commitment by BMW and Pirelli to push the boundaries of what’s possible with their vehicles, especially during the colder months.

Moreover, this endeavour aligns with their sustainability goals, utilising renewable materials and reducing the carbon footprint of their production processes. This reflects a shared vision by BMW and Pirelli for an environmentally conscious approach to mobility.

The tyre is set to debut on the BMW 7 Series in August 2024, and with plans to expand this technology to the BMW X3 later.
