Pirelli has stepped up as the Official Partner for the 2024 edition of Formula 1 in Schools Italy.
This is where teams of students put their heads together to design, build, and race miniature F1 cars powered by just a puff of compressed air.
Now in its second year in Italy, this challenge is part of a global initiative that’s got over a million students racing in 60 countries, all fueled by the dream of bringing STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) closer to the hearts and minds of the youth.
Crafted with the precision of a pit crew using CAD systems, CNC machines, and 3D printers, each car rolls out on ‘standard’ Pirelli branded wheels, with miniature Pirelli P Zero tyres.

Before these mini machines hit the racetrack, they undergo a rigorous aerodynamic check – first through the virtual eyes of computational fluid dynamics software and then in a wind tunnel. They probably have more wind tunnel testing time than Red Bull.
Then comes the real test – a 24-meter dash to glory, propelled by compressed air cartridges, to see which design cuts through the air best.
Pirelli’s involvement doesn’t end at the finish line. They’re gearing up to launch a series of online seminars designed to dive into Formula 1 tyres. It’s a chance for students to get a grip on the intricacies of tyre technology, straight from the engineers who live and breathe the high-speed world of Formula 1.

Mario Isola, Pirelli’s Head of Motorsport, shares, “For years, Pirelli has been an enthusiastic supporter of projects aimed at informing the younger generation about the many opportunities that motorsport can offer. During the championship, our track engineers often meet groups of young students who are interested in learning more about certain STEM subjects, also in considering a career in racing.”
“By listening to the experiences of our team members, we hope that they can gain inspiration for what could be their professional future, in a stimulating and highly competitive environment that can be incredibly rewarding”
